WRITING BRINGS HEALTH BENEFITS
Writing is great in itself but also brings great health benefits because it is a creative and emotional process we can use to address negative thoughts, feelings and events in our lives. Writing offers relief from the everyday stress and anxiety we all experience. Through our writing we can channel negative thoughts into positive creative energy. By establishing a daily writing routine; your sense of achievement and wellbeing will improve.
THE WRITING WITH STEVE STORY
Writing With Steve evolved from the award-winning Writing Well course I co-taught with Veronica Hyde. As the channel was in development, the world health crisis erupted and most people went into lockdown and confinement. For many this was a miserable time and worse for people with mental health problems who often feel vulnerable and isolated. For them the long periods of confinement brought new anxieties. Also, many people stuck at home began experiencing mental health problems. Many felt at a loose end, often struggling for activities to pass the time and alleviate their anxieties. The channel responded by quickly filming and editing videos that people could access and practice their writing skills while dealing with the serious mental health and wellbeing issues.
Writing is a perfect way to address both issues and we, through the generous support of several funders, were able to start our channel and reach out to people in need. At the same time the channel supports writing in general with many free resources.
